Canalway Trail Celebration for national trails day. The Canalway Trail Celebration is a coordinated series of local events centered on communities located along the Canalway Trail System. Rome Event: "Discover the Erie Canal Waste Weir" – Costumed interpreter will explain the only working waste weir dating from the 1840's. Erie Canal Village, 5789 New London Road, Rt. 49, 1:00 p.m. at Orientation Center.
June 11

Senior Wednesday. $3.00 off each senior admission ticket purchased for Village entrance.

June 14 & 15
Father's Day Weekend. Dad's receive free admission and/or boat ride, a free glass of root beer at Bennett's Tavern, and a free souvenir, when accompanied by a child of any age, with paid admission to Village and/or boat ride.
June 18
Hat Day Wednesday. $3.00 off each admission ticket purchased for Village entrance if you are wearing a hat or head covering (Adults, Seniors and Children).
June 21 & 22
BUY 1 GET 1 FREE. Buy an admission ticket for Village entrance and/or Packet Boat Ride Ticket and receive an additional admission and/or boat ride FREE (Adults, Seniors and Children).

Red Hat Wednesday. Anyone wearing a red hat will receive $3.00 off your admission ticket for the Village entrance.

July 4

Celebrate the Fourth. Free admission for Village entrance. Erie Canal Village is the site of where the first shovelful of earth was turned for the building of the Erie Canal on July 4, 1817. Celebrate the day with a stroll down to the historic site marker and take a horse drawn packet boat ride. Free lemonade at Benett's Tavern. Samples of Erie Canal Village cheese, play 19th century games, see Uncle Sam exhibit.

July 9

Boy Scout Wednesday. Any Boy Scout (adult or child) wearing a scout uniform will receive $3.00 off an admission ticket for Village entrance.

July 10 Cycling the Canal. Join over 500 cyclists, from around the world, as they explore Erie Canal Village, during their week long trek from Buffalo to Albany.
July 12 - 13

Rootin-Tootin Horse Play Weekend. Round up your family, friends, and neighbors, and come joing the excitement at Erie Canal Village, on Saturday, July 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, July 13th, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Learn about horses through lectures and clinics, given by professional equine club members. We will have several breeds of horses, from drafts to miniature horses.

Admission is $10.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors (62+), and $5.00 for children ages 5 to 17 and includes:

  • Breed demonstrations
  • Live music from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday by the Pine Hill Strings
  • Kids Corral, featuring games, stick horse races, piñata drop, coloring pages, riddles, puppet making and more
  • Horeshoeing and Blacksmith demonstrations
  • Informational tables
  • Wagon rides
  • Mounted shooting demonstrations by the New York Peacemakers
  • Vaulting demonstration and clinic by the Root Farm
  • Pony rides from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • 13 Historic buildings and 3 museums open for visitors
  • Steve Richards, Equine Dentist demonstration

Girl Scount Wednesday. Any Girl Scout (adult or child), wearing a Girl Scout uniform, will receive $3.00 off an admission ticket for Village entrance.

July 23

Generational Wednesday. Visitors with two or more generations receive $3 off each admission ticket purchased for entrance into the Village.

July 26

Discover Fort Bull. Erie Canal Village will offer FREE ADMISSION to the historic buildings, video and blacksmith demonstration. There will be a $6.00 charge per person for the boat ride (ages 5 and up). Chicken Bar-B-Q available.

Book Signing from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with several local authors.

Events also include:

  • Bob Bearer, author, will present "The Seige at Fort Bull"

August 2 & 3

Civil War Encampment. The 12th Regiment US Infantry will be at Erie Canal Village for the weekend. Walk through the soldier's camps, shop at the sutler's tents, watch army scenarios throughout the day and stay for the battle at 2:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Chicken Bar-B-Q available.

August 6

Senior Wednesday. All seniors (age 62 and up) receive $3 off each admission ticket purchased for entrance into the Village.

August 9 & 10

Dairy Festival. Meet the Oneida County Dairy princess, tour the New York State museum of cheese, make and sample homemade butter and ice cream. Many children's activities, petting area for goats and cows. Wine and cheese tasting provided by Thirsty Owl Winery and Erie Canal Village.

August 13

Children's Wednesday. All children, ages 5 to 17, will receive $3.00 off admission ticket for Village entrance and a free old fashioned stick candy.

August 20

Out of State Wednesday. Show your ID and all visitors from outside New York State receive $3 off each admission ticket purchased for admission into the Village.

August 23 - 24

Holistic and Psychic Fair Weekend. Erie Canal Village staff and members from the Spirit Way have met several times to investigate the historic buildings and grounds. Through seances and photography sessions we have found orbs and strong energy throughout the historic site.

During the day explore the 19th century buildings, blacksmith demonstrations, and orientation film, along with access to our fair vendors. Vendors include:

  • Dennis Cole, Psychic Intuitive Astrologer
  • Kris and Judy Faso, Stone Reader, Seer
  • Sandy Argus, Tarot Reading and Numerology
  • Kathryn Hapton, Seer, Spirit Reader
  • Dawn Lynn, Medium and Spiritual Healer

The Basett St. Hounds, Central New York's finest mixed border morris team, will perform on Sunday.

Our event will reopen Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for an Erie Canal Most Haunted session. This will include background information of our investigations in 2006 and 2008.

Presention by Central New York Ghost Seekers, with our photos, stories about ghosts along the famous Erie Canal, and the event will conclude with a candlelight tour and photo session. The Central New York Ghost Seekers are a professional group of paranormal investigators, specializing in ghost photography and research.

August 30 - 31
September 1

Harvest Festival. This is a celebration of 19th century life at the end of the farming season featuring various demonstrations held throughout the event including quilting, old fashioned rug hooking, blacksmithing, haying, open hearth cooking, and baking. Visitors are invited to help make and sample cider squeezed in our 19th century press. Bennett's Tavern will be serving refreshments and snacks.

Witness operation of 1880 vintage Keystone threshing machine, powered by circa 1900 Leffel portable steam engine. View various antique farm machinery and engines. Follow the process of grain from sheaves in the field to homemade bread baked in an 1850’s brick oven. (Samples of the bread are available in Bennett’s Tavern.)

Antique Farm Machinery Exhibit. Mike Milewski, blacksmith and farrier, will present an exhibit on antique farm machinery, including an 1880 thrashing machine as well as several other implements dating through the 1930's.

Quilt Show. Open 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.

Elsa Kiepert and Sarah Warner will exhibit 25 various style quilts dating from 1909 -2006.

Saturday: Entertainment by Yesterday's News and Friends.

Sunday: John Secor, from Back of the Barn Antiques, will evaluate items and give an estimate of their worth. Limit two (2) items per person.
